The West Haven Girls Swim and Dive team does one of its pre-game cheers.

The West Haven Girls’ Swim and Dive Team celebrated its first win of the season on Oct. 10, defeating Hamden’s Sacred Heart Academy.

In the meet, which was at home, West Haven beat Sacred Heart 94-92.

During the meet, after diving was done, West Haven and Sacred Heart were tied. West Haven was determined to win the meet, and placed first and second for the 100 butterfly, boosting up the score for West Haven.

Alana Orecchio came in first, with a time of 1:17.51; and Victoria Acuna placed second with a time of 1:19.46.

Later Kaelyn Falanga timed a 5:57.78 in the 500-freestyle, placing first after a head-to-head race with a Sacred Heart swimmer.

Racing to place first, Falanga got ahead reaching for the wall, slamming her hand against the touchpad. Looking up she saw that she won first in the event and celebrated.

“The team really wanted a win and they wanted to do it for each other,” Team Captain Morgan Falanga said.
