UNH Chargers Face Rivals SCSU Owls In Home Opener

The University of New Haven Chargers will be home for their first home game of the 2022 season this Saturday. The Chargers come in with a 0-1 record, losing their first game if the season against Bowie State, 27-20.

   The Chargers came into the season ranked 16th in Division II football, they are led by QB1 Connor Degenhardt. The quarterback out of Massachusetts passed for 259 yards, completing 52.9% of his passes and threw 2 touchdowns against the Bulldogs.

   UNH will face the Southern Connecticut State University Owls. The state rivalry games goes all the way back to October of 1984, UNH stands 25-6-1 historically against the Owls and has won the previous 12 matches against them.

   SCSU is going into New Haven also looking for their first win of the new campaign. The Owls are 0-1 after a 48-7 blowout loss at home against Shepherd University. They are led by New Hampshire born QB1 Joe Bernard who is in his senior year. Bernard has a 46.7 completion percentage with 62 yards this season, he is yet to throw a touchdown.

   This game is all about bragging rights, the rivalry teams come in with different game plans but the same objective: Win. Nevertheless one team will walk out 1-1 after this game as the other team will leave wondering what could’ve been.
