We are training our new morning news team, and we’ll be back on the air as soon as possible. Until then, we’ll post a set of announcements each day for teachers to read to their advisories.
Today’s announcements:
- Girls Basketball meeting. There will be a meeting next Thursday, September 12, for any girls interested in trying out for the girls basketball team. It will be right after school in room H215. See Coach Mo in room H215 with any questions.
- Baseball Fundraiser. Support the baseball team by shopping at this spirit store.
- Seal of Biliteracy. Attention Seniors: Do you speak another language? If so, you should sign up for the Seal of Biliteracy test, which will be on October 17th. This seal is an official document that shows your language skills. It will help you on the job search and in college. Stop by D306 or D312 for more information.
- Metaphysical Monday Club. The first meeting of the Metaphysical Monday club will be held on September 9th in D314. Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 3rd Mondays of the month. This club is for anyone intrigued by Astrology, Angels, Psychic Gifts, Crystals, Card Reading, and more. See Madame Reichert with any questions.
- GSA meeting. The first meeting of the West Haven High School GSA, Gender and Sexualities Alliance, will be in room D314 after school on Wednesday, September 18th. Meetings this year will be on third and fourth Wednesdays. See Madame Reichert with any questions.
- Dance Team Fundraiser. The Dance Team is holding an apparel fundraiser that runs until September 11th. Click this link to order! You may Venmo @Jessica-Ruiz-515 or use cash to pay.
- Senior Parking. Seniors: If you did not sign up for a parking space on PowerSchool, you cannot park in the parking lot. Many vehicles that are not approved are parking in other’s assigned parking spaces. If you are in someone’s space, your vehicle will be towed at your expense. Additionally, Seniors if someone is parked in your assigned spot, please take a photo of the license plate and bring to Ms. Corrado in the office.
- Rostrum meeting. The first meeting for The Rostrum will be on Wed. Sept. 11 in room F116 immediately after school. If you want to join our school news team, come on by!
- College visits. Research schools and meet with college admissions counselors’ in-person in the Career Center, room H127!
Students may sign up in the Career Center or on Naviance.You must present in the Career Center when the bell rings for the block. - Debate Team. The WHHS Debate Team will hold its first practice on Friday 9/6 after school in Room C-206. All new and returning team members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Debate Team is coached by members of the Yale University Debate Team and offers an incredible opportunity to improve your speaking skills, meet new people, and have fun competing against students from area high schools at monthly tournaments on the Yale campus. (NOTE: Debate Team practices will be held on Fridays this semester because that is the only day that works for the Yale coaches. Therefore, all WHHS students should know that know that there is no late bus on Fridays so students must arrange their own transportation home from school. Practices will end at 2:50 p.m.)
- Fall Sports Parent Meeting. There will be a parent/athlete meeting for all fall sports participants on Sept. 24 at 7 pm in the auditorium.
- Senior Yearbook Google Classroom. Here is the code for the Class of 2025 Yearbook Google Classroom: zycpc3i. This is where you will find information on senior portraits, yearbooks and more. FYI: Seniors must have their senior portraits taken by DECEMBER in order to be in the yearbook.
- Ace Mentor Program. Students, if you are interested in participating in a nationwide program designed to introduce you to a wide range of career opportunities open to young people in architecture, construction, engineering, and related areas of the building design and construction industry, the ACE program might be for you. - Model UN. The first meeting of the Model UN club will be on Monday, September 9 in room D114 with Mrs. Ficaro. We will discuss the upcoming Model UN conference at UNH on Oct. 27.
