It’s been a tradition for a few years now that student Devon Nichols has been on the news for Westie Weekend Weather, a part of the Rostrum Morning News at West Haven High School. He has a passion for forecasting the news. It just comes natural to him. Devon got this passion when his Life Skills class went to the News 8 Studio.
Devon used to be afraid of thunderstorms until I helped him realize that they aren’t so scary. Devon is a senior plus at West Haven High School, and he’s really a bubbly person. He lights up the room whenever he walks into it. His favorite thing to do is forecast the weather for all his peers. Things that set him apart from his peers are that he’s willing to help if someone needs a hand. When people are with him they find peace. He’s got this way about him; he’s so passionate about what he does. He’s a true friend. He’s really dependable. He’s always trying to do what’s right when no one is looking.
‘”Autism doesn’t define me, I define autism,” Devon said.
Devon steps up all the time to help if people need it. He’s got talents that no one is aware of, except friends in his friend circle such as me, Kevin and Tanasia. We know a lot about how to make Devon happy. Devon’s got a special spark in the West Haven High School’s community. He’s responsible and respectful and he’s gotten more comfortable in front of the camera at school. He is an intuitive person. If there was one word I’d use to describe him, it would be he’s passionate. He’s got a good head on his shoulders and he’s also reliable. When I think of Devon I think of a strong young man who is not afraid to say what is on his mind.
Devon really tries his hardest to make sure that he is ready for the day and he makes sure that he has his head in the game. He’s inspiring and he knows how to get past challenges that come his way. He takes it day by day and doesn’t worry about the next day until it happens. He’s a free spirited person and he makes me feel safe. Overall, he’s got a spark that he’s not going to relinquish. This spark inspires me and others.
He never gives up and it makes me want to be a better person. He’s also a member of the West Haven High School Unified Sports Team. This means that he gets to exercise after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Triple W is important to others because we get to know what the weather will be for the weekend. He knows how to make others feel good about themselves and he reflects his positive energy for others to see and emulate. If I ever need someone, he’s right by my side .
Learning about his weather segment has taught me some things, such as what he likes to do . He pays attention to the weather, he’s always got a funny joke to tell someone and he also makes other people happy.
In addition, he makes a great addition to West Haven High School and a great addition to our community and again he teaches me new things about the weather every day. He went to WTNH News 8 and he was shocked that professional meteorologist Ashley Baylor let him report the weather.
In conclusion, he’s a great friend and an even greater part of our school community. Devon is the school meteorologist and a great part of our school community. He’s always there to make us feel better and we look forward to his future. Westie Weekend Weather is the best part of my week.
